As their wine country burns, Calif. liberals make discovery that may FINALLY set them straight

Approximately 23 vineyards in Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties in California sustained significant damage during the fires that ravaged the region in the last few weeks. Sipping on a glass of pinot noir while nibbling a salad of organic arugula and congratulating themselves for being progressive enough to become a sanctuary state may no longer be a popular liberal pass time, after they learn more about the fires that destroyed their beloved vineyards.

But perhaps it’s finally the wake-up call they need to reverse their naive generosity. Turns out it may be one of their beloved “undocumented” sanctuary seekers who lit the match.

According to Breitbart, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Tom Homan confirmed on Thursday that a man arrested in connection with setting a fire in Sonoma County Wine Country is an illegal alien from Mexico who has been twice returned to his “home country.”

Homan also confirmed that ICE has issued detainer requests for Jesus Fabian Gonzalez five times now in the past year alone, including the one issued on October 16 in relation to his most recent arrest on suspicion of arson. All of the arrests were made “by Sonoma County on various felony and misdemeanor charges,” according to Homan.

Sonoma County is considered a sanctuary jurisdiction and does not fully cooperate with federal immigration officials. That includes not honoring ICE detainer requests. “ICE was never notified of Mr. Gonzalez’ various releases,” Homan wrote in the statement regarding Gonzalez.

There were several fires in the region, and it is not clear what role the fires Gonzales allegedly set played in the overall disaster.

Support for illegal immigration has always been something of a paradox in my view. Look at attitudes towards illegal immigration by state, and it’s often those most burdened by illegal immigration that show the greatest support for it, on average.

Take California’s case of political Stockholm Syndrome as exhibit A. The liberal stronghold suffers a fiscal cost of $23 billion annually thanks to illegal immigration, at a cost of $6,517 per alien.

Another study put the cost at $30 billion (or $7,352 per alien), which is even more significant in light of the fact that equals nearly 20 percent of the state’s $171 billion annual budget.

Perhaps it’s because the costs of illegal immigration are somewhat hidden. It’s not like anyone in California physically sees illegals not paying taxes, and taking government benefits.

But as wildfires ravage the state, could there finally be a non-monetary cost of illegal immigration that has them wise up? Maybe this tragedy will finally touch the hearts of those chardonnay-quaffing, limousine liberals as their beloved vineyards go up in flames.

We already know illegal immigrants are a net fiscal drag on our nation – and all other consequences just pile on top of that.

Perhaps those running California have some masochistic tendencies, because they’ve made themselves a “sanctuary state.” What could possibly go wrong? They’re finding out in a big way…
